Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is there a foul odor coming from my septic system?

A:  Check for a full tank, which might need pumping. Ensure all drains have proper "P-traps" with water to prevent gases from coming back into the house. If the problem persists, call us.

Q: Why are my drains running slow?

A:  This could indicate a clog. Avoid using chemical drain cleaners; instead, use natural methods or septic-safe products. If slow drainage continues, your septic tank might need pumping or there could be an issue in the drain field.

Q: Why is there standing water or wet spots around my drain field?

A:  This may suggest your tank is full or there's a problem with the drain field. Avoid driving or walking over these areas and call us immediately.  2.

Waves

Q: How often should I pump my septic tank?

A:  On average, a septic tank should be pumped every 3-5 years. However, the frequency can vary based on the size of the tank, the number of people in the household, and usage habits. It's wise to get regular inspections.

Q: Can I plant trees near my septic system?

A:  It's best to avoid planting trees near your septic system as roots can grow into and damage the tank and pipes. Stick to grass or plants with shallow root systems.

Q: What shouldn't I flush down my toilet?

A:  Never flush items like wipes (even if they say "flushable"), feminine hygiene products, diapers, or chemicals. Stick to septic-safe toilet paper. Additionally, never pour fats, oils, or greases down your sink as this causes major issues with your septic system.

Fishing on Pier

Q: My septic alarm is going off. What should I do?

A:  A septic alarm usually indicates that the pump is not working correctly or there's a high water situation. Refrain from using water and call us immediately.

Q: Why is grass greener over my drain field?

A:  Greener grass may indicate excess moisture from the septic system. While this can be normal to an extent, excessive growth suggests possible leakage. Monitor the area and call us if it continues.

Q: What cleaning products are safe for my septic system?

A:  Opt for biodegradable and septic-safe cleaners. Avoid bleach-heavy products and those with anti-bacterial agents as they can disrupt the bacterial balance in the tank.
